ORAKEI SEWER.
NO BREAKS IN CONCRETE.
EXAMINED BY DIVER
The diver employed by the Auckland Harbour Board has slipped over the side of a boat on three occasions this month and disappeared below. The object wan to examine the main outfall sewer at Orakei, which, by the way, had not been inspected by a diver since 1917, just ten years ago. In his report to the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board last night, the diver stated there were no breaks in the concrete the iron pipes appeared to be quite sound. The pipes were buried, and in some places were about 18 inches under the sand, while in others the top edge was just showing. The harbour bed in the vicinity of the sewer was fine sand with black mud underneath. The report was received, the members apparently being quite satisfied to take the diver's word for it.
