REPORT.

EXTENDING THE MAIN SEWERS. There are now seven districts incorporated in the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board district, the total area of which is 17,558 acres, with an estimated population of 146,020 persons, the estimates 'being based upon figures eupplied by the Government Statistician on March 31 last. This was mentioned by the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, last evening, when, as chairman of the Drainage Board, he presented the annual report of Mr. H. H. Watkins, engineer and secretary, covering the activities of the board for the past Year. In his report, Mr.* Watkins said that in Auckland city (including the Domain) there were 8291 acres, and the population 89,680, the figures for the remaining six districts covered by the Drainage Board feeing:—Mount Eden Borough, 1400 acres, 18,700 population; Mount Albert* 2450 and 18,320; Newmarket, 169 and 3230; Avondale (portion), 2240 and 4870; One Tree Hill Road District (portion), 938 and 7570; Tamaki (portion) 2100 and 3650. Proposals were under consideration by the board for the drainage district to be extended to include a portion of the Mount Roskill Road District, the whole of the Orakei Road District, and two portions of the EHerslie Town District At March 31, 1927, the total amount accrued m the sinking funds created for the repayment of loans was £53,699 17/10. The amount credited to each loan -would be submitted to the board for approval in due course. The average rate of interest returned by investments at date was £6 4/5 per centum per annum. Finance. Towards the end of the year a loan of £25,000 was raised in Australia, the debentures being issued at par, each with a currency of 21 Tears, and bearing interest at the rate of £5 13/6 per centum per annum. A sinking fund of fl per centum per annum was established for the repayment of the loan. All told, seven loans, totalling £500,000, tad been raised,, but in addition to this •urn of £500,000, the liabilities of the board also included two loans totalling £3500, raised by the late Hobson Bay Watershed Sewage Board, and maturing tn-1944. The public debt of the board was therefore £505,500. There was a credit balance of £989 0/7 in the fund at the end of the financial year, subject to audit and approval. The income and revenue derived by way receipts of •mounts assessed and levied upon the contributing authorities during, the year amounted to £32,660 15/5. Hew Works. ; The construction of a branch sewer was completed early in the year, which enabled the Tamaki Road Board to conBeet the reticulation sewer system of the Road District to the board's sewer system. Another branch sewer was being constructed for the purpose of connecting to the board's sewer system reticulation sewer systems in the Remuera district of Auckland City and the One TSjree Hill Road District. The' work comprises 5111 lineal feet of circular ■ewer, the 'contract tender being £12,751 4/6.
