CHINA'S WARS.
HEAVY FIGHTING.
Chiang Meets Reverses Against
Northerners.
SITUATION OBSCURE,
(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 1 p.m.) SHANGHAI, May 17. Heavy fighting continues in Honan. Hankow Government forces and their Northern allies have made no appreciable difference to the situation. Wealthy Chinese in Hankow are sheltering in the remaining foreign concessions and sending their families to Shanghai. Lower down stream, where Chiang Kai-shek has engaged a mixed Northern force, a British wireless message reports that the situation is not favouring Chiang.
