The evening sessions nt the Auckland Chess Club are being well attended, uuil with the neaf approach of the winter tournaments members ure taking a more serious interest in their games. Entries have been invited for the club championship, intermediate and minor levels, ami open handicap I tourneys, and although the names or several noted performers are still übsent from the list, there is little doubt that by Thursday next, when entries close, a record number of entries will be to hand. The club ladder has been reinstated, with the New Zealand champion. A. W. O. Davies on the top rung. A challenge to Mr. Pavies has been Issued by l>. J. Jones, and the march is in progress The result is still in doubt, each player having scored a win. while the third game, which was played last night, had to be adjourned with little advantage to either player.
