MINING NEWS.
THE KAWARAU DAM. <By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") DUNEDIN, this day. Hard frosts are being experienced in Central Otago, and with rivers falling steadily it should not be long before the Kawarau Company closes the dam gates. At Frankton Falls the Kawarau River has dropped about one foot in a week.

TWENTY POUNDS PICKED STONE. The manager wired this morning: "Secured 20Ibs of good picked stone from the leading stope seaward."
MANAGERS' REPORTS.
Albumin. —The manager reports that the drive north has been continued a total distance of 1615 feet from the entrance. The leader is enclosed in splendid country rock and at each breaking down has shown good blotches of gold. The western crosscut has been extended a further 12 feet in country of a hard nature. Stoplng over the intermediate level has been in hand; The reef is about 18in in width, and while breaking down on Saturday a little stone was got showing stronger gold than any previously obtained. The reef looks most promising overhead. Kuranul. — The manager reports that cleaning out of the old battery level has been extended 70ft, a total of 334 ft from the surface. The level up to this point is In good order. The level for the next 100 ft is open, but requires some new timber and cleaning up, line laying, etc. The drive east on Barry's reef has been extended oft, a total of 120 ft. The reef averages 2ft' wide, and still looks very well, carrying nice bright mineral and silica, and the country rock is still of a splendid class on both walls, being interlaced with quartz stringers and; mineral veins.
