Mr. L. Mills and his son, Mr. H. Mills, of Wellington, are at the Grand Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Humphreys have returned to Tauranga, after spending a holiday with their sons at Onehunga. ■ Mr. V. Franklin, an old boy of the Auckland Grammar School, has been , awarded the Lubecki Scholarship by the , Auckland University College Council. j Among the guests at the Grand Hotel are Mr. C. R. Crookes has been appointed to the board of co-examiners in engineering by the Auckland University College, during the absence of Mr. W. P. Gauvain. Staying at the Central Hotel are: Mr. P. J. Stewart, who lias found it necessary to resign his seat on the directing board of the Y.M.C.A., was entertained by other members of the board at the Y.M.C.A. building in Wellesley Street. The president, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, presented Mr. Stewart with a minute of appreciation which had been placed on the association's records, together with a life membership ticket, j A conference of North Island railway district traffic managers is being held in Auckland under the chairmanship of Mr. E. Casey, divisional superintendent for the North Island. Those attending are Mr. J. G. Rickerbv (Auckland), Mr. H. A. Penn (Ohakune), Mr. J. Cameron (Wellington), and Mr. P. H. Hartland (Wanganui). Mr. B. R. Sword, of the Traffic Department, who is attached to the office of the divisional superintendent for the North Island, is also present.
