A SUCCESSFUL YEAR.
NAVY LEAGUE INCREASING.
The annual report of the Navy League shows that it has been a most successful year in all branches of that body's activities. Three hundred and thirty-five new members have joined in response to a circular letter from the league setting out 25 reasons why naval defence is necessary to the Dominion. Since the officers have many friends in Auckland, the league decided to devote itself more to the entertainment of the men. They also entertained the officers and men of the Renown, and were presented with a framed photograph of the Duke ai>d Duchess. The ladies' committee and several members of the girls' branch also received silver mementoes bearing the crest of H.M.s. Renown. The ladies' committee has so increased in numbers that sub-committees have been formed. One, in charge of Miss A. Basten, has undertaken to collect and distribute literature to the- Ricr: of the fleet. The membership of the girls' branch has now increased to 400. During the year Mr. A. G. Lunn was forced by ill-health ■to retire from the presidency, but his valuable services were still available to the league.
