FELL 45 FEET.

ONLY SLIGHTLY INJURED. ] ACCIDENT AT NIHOTUPU. FOREMAN OF WORKS HURT. At the City Council's water works at Nihotupu about 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon Mr. John Drafiin, foreman of works, fell 45 feet from the top oi a dam on which he was. standing to direct working operations which were being carried out. First aid was. administered to . him until the arrival of a resident doctor from the Auckland Hospital, where Mr. Drafiin was taken at 10 p.m. the same evening, in the hospital ambulance. He was examined and it was discovered that he had been fortunate enough to have escaped with three broken ribs, minor abrasions and slight back injuries. Latest reports with regard to his conj dition state that he passed the night in ' comfort, and is in a satisfactory | condition.

Mr. Draffin, who is a married man, G2 years of age, and who resides at 41, Howe Street, City, is considered to have had a miraculous escape from very serious injuries, if not from death.
