OBITUARY.

NONAGENARIAN'S DEATH. MR. WILLIAM CAIE. The death occurred yesterday at the age of 90 years of Mr. William Caie, for a number of years clerk to the Paparata Road Board, to which position he was appointed in 1887. Mr. Caie was living with his son at Waitakaruru, near Thames, at the time of his death. Deceased was born in Kincardineshire, Scotland, and arrived in New Zealand in 1865 by the ship Bombay. CAPTAIN X. 0. NIUMAN. On Saturday a master mariner, well known in the New Zealand slapping trade, died, aged 65 years, at his residence, Wood Street, Ponsonby. Captain K. O. Niuman was born in Finland, and came to New Zealand 40 years ago. At one time he owned and ran the schooner Hercules, and the ketch Coronation. For a long period he was in the service of James Smith and Co., mostly <m the run between Auckland and Whangarei. MR. ARTHUR THOMAS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. The death occurred this morning at Whangarei Hospital, after a long illness, of Mr. Arthur Thomas, in his 81st year. Born in Wales, he came to New Zealand in the ship Lancashire Witch, landing in Whangarei in 1805. In the early days lie cafried on a butchery business, and he wa'l for many years associated with the late Samuel McMahon in the Whangarei Hotel. Of sterling character, he was always universally respected. He married Miee Louisa Courtney,'of Parnell, Auckland, and she predeceased him nine years ago. He is survived by four eons, two daughters and many grandchildren. MRS. JEANNIE HOUSTON. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Saturday. Mrs. Jeannie Houston, who was in her hundredth year, died last night. She was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland, and came to New Zealand 47 years ago with her husband, the late Mr. Archie Houston. She lived in Oamaru and Auckland, and for the last 18 years had lived in Hamilton. Mrs. Houston leaves one Wglfttr and one son.
