COMPENSATION CLAIM.
FtTU. AMOUNT AWARDED. * LINTON MINER'S DEATH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) IXVERCARGILL, this day. Mary Francis, a miner's ■widow, was awarded £750 compensation from ths Linton Coal Company on account of the death of her husband, who was suffocated by gas while working in the mine. The company denied that Francis wa3 killed in the course of his employment, and pointed out that regulations provide that no workman shall be in any part of the mine other than in the part where he is working. The Arbitration Court held that it /was reasonable to infer that Francis went for a necessary purpose and was not guilty of misconduct in taking the route he did. The Court therefore awarded the full amount claimed.
