BATHS AT PT. CHEVALIER.
A REPLY TO COUNCILLOR BRINSDEfc' (To tne Editor.) With reference to the" remark of \<f r * W. Brinsden re the proposed baths « r pChevalier, I should like to point Out i"* salient facts. Auckland is P poorly J&L with open air baths, and the tary state of the bottom of Parnel! Ba?f l " a disgrace to our City Fathers. PerhanTV Brinsden could expect his energv as of the Parks and Reserves Committee JSg this and so prevent a serious epidemic It disease m our midst. Whenever inZL ments are asked for, we arc told that til" baths do not pay and money cannot be for the work The ugly gateway £55 to Parnell Park could well have been omitte? and the money put to better the baths. Surely Mr. Brinsden's remark concerning the encroachment on the eastern waterfront is one of the strongest possible arguments in favour of proper provision fj bathing at Point Chevalier. Probably he il not aware that it is almost impossible to hatha at Point Chevalier for several hours before and after low tide, and the baths will provide against this great disadvantage, and there win be no danger of shark scares. The advantage of such a, bath as is proposed for the holding of the New Zealand swimming championshmi would be of inestimable value. T. H. PETTIT., ILB.
