LOST ROMANCE.
Marchioness of Aberdeen and " Army " Major. NEW ZEALAND INCIDENT. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 13. The Marchioness of Aberdeen, presiding over a Salvation Army function at 'Aberdeen, related an amusing story of how, years ago, when she was visiting New Zealand, a Salvation Army major tad proposed marriage to her. 'T was prowling round the Salvation 'Army barracks on a Sunday morning," the said, "and got talking to the major »bout the Army's work. He said he wis having great difficulty in finding a life partner who would assist him in the Army work, and asked me would I not consider the position." ''I had the greatest difficulty in assuring him that I was quite unqualified, and already had a husband and family. 1 offered to introduce my husband to inm, but I never saw the major again."
