BOKOUGU COUNCIL MEETS. DEPCTT MAYOR APPOINTED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE. Friday. The Morrinsville Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. S. S. Allen, presiding. Mr. McPlierson was appointed deputy Advice was received from the borough solicitors that a settlement had been arranged wiih Mr. Hannon in reference to his claims against the council. The arrangement was that the council would pay Mr. Hannon £450 for his land betweou the road and the river at the dam site in full settlement of his claims against the council. ! Had the matter been taken to I the court the council woVrt have lost and 'to save the expense of regal proceedings : the present settlement was made. j Mr. H. R. Turnbull. manager of 'Tainui Estate Co., Lid.. Hoe-b-Tainui. wrote that the settlers on the Ohinewai-Tabuna road had forwarded n petition to the Main Highways i Board requesting that the road be at once ! brought under the jurisdiction of the board. It was decided to support the petition, the Mayor stating he understood that similar support was being accorded the petition by the Piako County Council. With reference to the published reports of the results of the analysis made bv the Public Health Department of the wate'r supply, the superintendent ot" the X.Z. Co-operative Dairy Co. wrote asking what steps the council had taken to deliver to the company's Morrinsville factory a pure water. The Mayor stated that the Health Department intended tending an officer to inspect the source of supply shortly, and on his motion the matter was left over until the report of the Department was before the council. The finance committee reported the hank balances to be as follow:—Roading loan, (credit) £273 7/2; on deposit, £3000; baths loan (credit) £3:) IS/4 : sewerage loan (on deposit) £r,20 14/7; sewerage connections loan (debit) £34S 13/S: district fund account (crcdi:) £20S 12s.
