SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
Numerous visitors to the Dominion returned to Australia by the Marama yesterday, including Misses Allen, Brocklebank. G. and C. Burke, Frost, Forder, Garlick, Clayton, Mcintosh, Colonna, Garland; Mesdames Bowden, Black, Colonna, Greewell, Glover, Judd, Fairgrey.
Mrs. McArthur, Remuera, held a delightful tea party this morning at the Tudor Tea Rooms. The tables were decorated in rod and gold. The hostess wore a soft satin frock, felt hat and a Peschaniki Russian fur- coat. Guests included Mesdames Hain, Brown, Ready, McCoy, Buck, Herman, Hammer.
Miss Darling was the hostess for .1 bright bridge party last night, held at "Glenalvon." The drawing-room and card-room were specially decorated with vellow and gold cactus dahlias and asparagus fern. Miss Darling wore a chic gown of black satin romaine, an apron of silver metal, yellow and red roses embroidered on it, wido beaten silver shawl. Guests included—Mesdames Mercer, Miller, Hayman, Pike (Sydney), Cameron, Misses Rosa Beokett, Colcmnn.
Beautiful autumn flowers in reds and yellows were tlio decorations for the delightful "At Home" party held yesterday at "Gleualvon" to renew old Auckland friendships. The hostess was Mrs. A. R. Scott, of Oamaru. Mrs. Scott's gown was foxglove georgette, worked in gold and black tinsel, black pannelled chaminade overdress. Guests included— Mrs. (Dr.) Mercer, Mrs. Hamilton Armstrong (London), Mrs. Fellows Thompson, Mrs. E. H. Clive, Mrs. Boyle, Mrs. Kirker. Mrs. Knox, Mrs. jr. Hart, Misses Edith Isaacs, White, Darling.
A successful concert was arranged last Wednesday by the entertainment committee of the Takapuna Boating Club, in the clubhouse at Bayswater. Songs were contributed by Miss Craig, Mrs. Keven, Miss C. Cutler, Messrs. Wallace, Wright, and Bridges; duets by Miss C. Cutler and Mr. R. Sharrock, by Mr. and Mrs. Bridges, and by Mr. Wallace and Mr. Wright; cornet solo by Mr. T. Blomfield, and cornet duet by Messrs. Blomfield and Wood. Two amusing duologues were given by Mr. and Mrs. W. Bailey, and Mr. H. Wood and Fartncr. Several well rendered chorus numbers were given by the Royal Club Pierrots, and a pianoforte solo by Mr. Frank Easson. One number that found great favour with the audience was taken from fairy lore, and was acted by 37 small children under the tuition of Mrs. Wyatt. It was entitled "The Sun Babies." The staging, dancing, and acting of tho children reflected great credit on Mrs. Wvatt's skill and taste, and on the children's abilities. The accompanists were Mr. James Hutton, Misses G. Davis and '.Matthews.
