NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Northcote Borough Council mei? last evening, the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Green** lade, presiding. 4 Deputy-Mayor.—Mr. H. Weaver wai" appointed Deputy-Mayor. , Water Board.—The Mayor was appointed, the Northcote representative on the North! Shore Water Board. Marine Boroughs' Association.—The Mayor and Messrs. Weaver and Ryan are' to sit as the Northcote members of the Marine Boroughs' Association. Town Planning.—ln conection with the, visit of the director of town planning t« explain the procedure under the Act, it was' resolved to endeavour to arrange a joint meeting with the Birkenhead Borough, 1 Council in order to meet Mr. R. B. Han*» mond. : . Football Ground.—The Northcote and.! Birkenhead Ramblers' League Football, Club was informed that there was no possibility of a football ground being, ready/ this season in the Stafford Road reserve, but that should such be prepared later, all ' local clubs would be afforded equal opportunity of application. Waitemata Sanitation.—A communication from the Waitemata County Council refer*, ring to a proposed sanitation service for . portion of the riding between Northeote and Birkenhead was referred to the council in committe, as was also the arrangement for continuance of the borcagh, service. Hospital Levy.—The contribution of £6*4 6/ for hospital purposes represents ai» increased payment of £28 over that of last year. . Mayor's Honorarium.—The annual allow* ance of £50 to the Mayor is to be continued for the present term. ft Bank.—The bank overdraft limit waif fixed at £5000, and the Mayor, Messrs. Weaver, Fraaer and Munn appointed to sign cheques. By-laws.—The town clerk reported that a set of by-laws had been drafted. Inspection.—On Friday morning at •! o'clock the members of the council are'teA commence a tour of inspection of ii*"* borough, before deciding on a' programme' , of works to be undertaken. Many suggested works were referred to the council in committee pending this inspection. Wintering Yachts.—Messrs. Wearer, Munn, Fraser and Lennon were empowered to act in respect to a proposal to make arrangements for a safe and sheltered place on Sulphur Beach areas, belonging to the council, for the haulage of launches and other small craft for the winter.

Deferred.—Consideration is to be give* by the council in committee to the quettions of electrification of the sewerage pumping station in Alfred Street, council yard improvements, the Belle Vue Avenue tenders, Stafford Road recreation reserve. Lake Road repairs, storm water arrangements in Ocean View Road, combined refuse destructor for the North. Shore, the water rate and appeal case, and the' operation of the sewerage system. Concrete paving.—It was decided to 1 arrange a conference with the engineer, Mir.' A. Greville Walker, on matters connected < with the loan works. It was stated that. the concrete had been laid between, Clarence Street and near the Onewa Street, corner, with the exception of the portion at the Denby Gully culvert. Altogether J 3544 square yards had been covered. A new four-inch water main was also beins laid from Alma Street northwards. School Ground Improvement.—On the] application of Mr. R. Martin, chairman of | the Northcote School Committee, thjfj council donated the use of the tractor i and scoop for assisting in the work of school ground improvement now in progress. " Foreman's Report.—The foreman of works (Mr. P. Colvin) reported that formation and kerbing of footpaths in Princes Street was in progress. The footpath had on the western side had been completed and a six-feet strip topdressed with soil for grassing. The eastern footpath from the Point to the Goldhole; had been formed to the permanent level and kerbed. The length of Main Road, from Raleigh Road to the northern boundary, some 51 chains, required scarifying, metalling and rolling, as m some places it was beyond repairing. A length of six chains north of Raleigh Road was in a very bad state, and another length of eight chains from Rushbrook's Hill to Mr. Ralston's entrance. The cost would be £18 6/ per chain to scarify, metal, blind and roll. Water.—The waterworks engineer (Mr., J Williamson) reported that the three-' inch main taken up from Sulphur Beach.' was being re-laid in Kauri Glen Road. It' was proposed to lay ten chains of threeinch cast iron main and finish'with 11-inch galvanised iron pipe. In Valley Road about five chains of three-inch main would be laid and finished with %-inch galvanised iron pipe.

WAIUKU TOWN BOARD.

The Waiuku Town Board met on Monday evening, Mr. J. Walters presiding. Mr. West reported that the Power Board would proceed immediately with the erectioa of ten extra street light's. It was resolved that before any licensee Tor petrol bowsers were renewed, applicant* must take ont an frnsnrance policy indemnifying., the board against any claims for accident.
