SEVERAL MINOR CHARGES

Several motorists appeared in the Police Court before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to answer charges of negligent and dangerous driving and other infringements of by-laws.

Driving without a. tail-light cost John Duncan Grayson and Mary Emily Paterson 10/ and 16/ court costs each, while for passing stationary trajns, William Lingford was fined £1 with costs, and Percy Taylor was convicted and.ordered to pay court costs amounting to £1 6/. Charles H. Housega was fined 10/ with costs for driving an unlicensed vehicle, and for driving without motorist's license, Uric Poison was fined £1, with 13/ qoste.

James O'Hara did not appear to answer charges of leaving, his vehicle facing the wrong way, and for driving without lights. On the first charge he was fined 5/ with 16/ costs, and on the second 10/. Sydney H. Clendon was fined 10/ with costs for pillion riding.

For negligent driving Harry Victor Harland was fined £2, and ordered to pay 22/ costs, and for speeding, Bertie E. Jenkins was ordered to pay court costs amounting to 16/.

Henry Bernard Peterson appeared to answer a charge of negligent driving. While driving to Otahuhu from the ferry building late at night, he knocked down a cyclist in Beach Road, damaging his bicycle beyond repair, and injuring the man, who stated in evidence that be had been badly bruised and cut. Defendant was fined f 2 with" 16/ costs, and ordered to make restitution to the cyclist to the extent of £7.

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT.

The chief traffic inspector of Auckland. Mr, G. Hogan, had only a small list of people at the Magistrate's Court to-day to answer charges of breaches against the city traffic regulations, and not one was for speeding.

George Hodges and Frederick Alfred Voice were each fined 20/ tind costs for plying for hire with unlicensed taxicabs.

W. Thomas, B. Ewart, and George G. Hill were each fined 20/ and costs for failing to obey, the Rignal of the traffic officer, and George Jcnkinson 10/ and costs.

Forjeavincr cars unattended, Alexander Davey and Norati Calame were each ordered to pay 10/ and costs. Ernest L. Wood was mulcted in 10/ and costs for leaving a car in a zone, .and Carter Pawson was ordered to.pay costs for failing to give a signal. . ■

Albert J. Crocker pleaded guilty to having filled the petrol tank of an omnibus in Manukau Road when there were passengers on board. The inspector said he believed the two passengers got into the bus without the knowledge of the driver while he was in the office. Mr. McKean said defendant -was liable to a heavy penalty, but on this occasion the fine would be 10/ and costs.

AVONDAUE OASES.

Mr. G. T. Chandler, traffic inspector for Avondale Borough, had a few more cases of speeding to and from Muriwai races before the Court. The rate travelled ranged from 33 to 35} miles per hour.

J. Wilkie was fined 15/ and costs; G. J. Sichardson, 10/ and costs each on two charges, coming and going; E. E. Lenir, 10/ and costs, and one charge was diemissed, the defendant being given tha benefit of the doubf. His defence was that it took him 2.f hours to do the 35 miles to Helensville, therefore he could not have been going 33 miles per hour at Avondale.
