There were tornadoes and blizzardf in Kansas, lowa, Wyoming and Montana at the week-end. They caused at least 12 deaths and< did damage estimated at many thoos-' ands of pounds. Most of the victims lived in the vicim*ity of Hutchinson, in the State of Ka_«" sas. The hurricane was accompanied by cloudbursts, which demolished SOU houses and farther raised the already swollen streams. Snowstorms have crippled communications in some districts in the western parts of the States. DAMAGE COLOSSAL. (Received 11.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 9. The cyclonic wind and rain storm! which damaged sections of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, lowa and Colo* rado took 50 lives and injured 300 people. Twisting winds demolished farm houses and uprooted trees, while th» towns most seriously hit were Garland, and Nevada. Texas property damage is at present estimated at £280,000. The Red Cross, which is already bm> dened with flood relief work, has been called upon to render assistance to th» victims. FLOOD CRISIS. EXPECTED ON WEDNESDAY. .-J NEW ORLEANS, May 9. The crisis in the Mississippi floods Iβ likely on Wednesday when engineer* expect levee breaks at Brig Bend. They are doing everything' to reinforce the banks, but fear there is little chance of averting a break. Red Cross relief subscriptions now total £150,000.
