DARING ESCAPE.
j Life Sentence Prisoners Cause | i Sensation. 1 CLEVER GETAWAY. I (Received 11.30 a.m.) BELFAST, May 9. Three prisoners serving life sentence* for murder, and one sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment for attempted murder, made a sensational escape from Belfast Prison at daybreak. It appears that the escape was cleverly planned inside and outside. About 4 a.m. a motor car entered the gardens of the convent adjoining, and at a given signal the four convicts, who it is stated were occupying one cell, rushed the corridor, seized the warders, gagged and trussed them. They took their revolvers and keys, with which they entered the outer yard, scaled the wall, and entered the car, which drove off at more than a mile a minute towards the Free State border, 50 miles away. The authorities are perturbed at the ' fact that the convicts were in one cell ■ and were also allowed to send messages to outside parties.
