MEETING OF TOWN BOARD.

The fortnightly meeting «f the GSsa Eden Town Doard was held on Monday evening, thcue present being Mr. W. Hj Shepherd (chairman), and Messrs. Ambler, Routley, Martin and Hayes. Town Planning Act.—Mr. R. B. Hammond, Director of Town Planning, advised that- he would be in the Auckland district for a limited period, and the clerk was directed to communicate with him and arrange a date when it would be convenient for him to meet the board. The New Lynn Town Board advised that a conference of local bodies interested in the Whau bridge would be held at the Chamber of Commerce on May 12. The 2sew Lynn Town Board suggested an alteration in the present stock route. Consideration was deferred pending further developments, the opinion of the board being that it was a matter for consideration by the whole of the bodies concerned. The question of surface drainage on to the Croydon road station, of which the Railway Department had complained was left in the hands of the Works Committee. Advice was received that any official of the Town Board could be empowered to request hawkers operating in the district to produce their license. A complaint was received from one ratepayer re the damage being done to» footpaths by stray horses. The clerk; was directed* to reply asking for further; particulars. A deputation from the school com-, mittee waited upon the board re thej suggestions of the Education Depart-; ment to cut up portion of the education. , reserve for leasing purposes. The posi-i tion as last notified to the board was , explained to the deputation. The clerk was instructed to take the. necessary steps to notify the intention. , of the Board to raise a loan for the: metalling of the uncompleted portion of. Clayburn and adjacent roads. Complaint was made of the practice ofj the buses running through the district' with all lights out. The clerk was directed to draw the attention of the; bus company to the matter and request! that this dangerous practice be stopped. Instructions were given to the clericto ascertain details of cost, etc., in con-i nection with the provisions of a public; pound, one ratepayer having intimated) willingness to take up the duties of poundkeeper. Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P., attended the. meeting to discuss several matters iiv which his assistance had been enlisted, the most important being the provision of a post office, and the dangerous railway crossings in the township. The, question of inadequate lighting at the stations was also raised, there being no light at Croydon Road whatever. His attention was also drawn to the somewhat ambiguous and impossible regulations ist-ued by the Local Cioveriiiiieut Loans Board, and to the disposal of fine* inflicted under the heavy train- laws sroing to the Government in-uad of to the local body concerned. —y.
