Al>out 1 p.m. the sAmo day, while having lunch, a noise was heard in tho saloon. Witness went to investigate, and on lifting the hatch Staton emerged from his hiding-place. Staton was put to work with the members of tho crew, and behaved excellently during the journey to Auckland. Constable Donnelly, who took accused into custody when the ship arrived here, said that Staton explained that he htowed away because he was unable to find work in Brisbane. "That is so. sir," said Statnn. "I thought I would have a tetter chance of petting a ship here, eo I decided to come. I have excellent papers, Kir." Mr. Hunt: You certainly behaved and worked well on tho ship," but I cannot dismiss the charge, for it would only encourage others to stow away. You will be fined £~i. or seven days' imprisonment. I cannot make it any lighter than that.
