FORMER INTER-COLONIAL TRADER.

TROOPSHIP DURING THE WAR. As reported in our cabled news, the Kuddart-Parker Co.'s steamer Riverina is ashore on Gabo Island. When built at Sunderland in 1905, the Riverina was intended for the passenger and cargo trade on the Australian coast, but she was transferred to the intercolonial service. Later she reverted to the Australian trade. In 1918, when the Wimmera was sunk by the explosion of a German mine off the New Zealand coast, with the loss of 26 lives, the Riverina again entered the New Zealand service, making regular visits to Auckland and Wellington. She la«t visited this port during .lime. 1921. During the war period the Riverina was used as a troo'pship. A vessel of 2808 tons net, the Riverina is one of the four largest vessels in the company's fleet, and has been engaged in the Sydney-Hobart service for several years. Since the Huddart-Parker Co. was formed in 1870, three of its steamers have been lost on the New Zealand coast. The Tasmania was wrecked near Gis borne on July 20. 1597. with the loss of 10 live?. The Eliiigainite, which struck the Three Kings on November 9, 19U2, with the loss of 4.'> lives, and the Wimmera.

A parade of the members of St. John Ambulance took place yesterday morning at St. Matthew's Anglican Church at which representatives were present from practically all over New Zealand. The parade assembled at the ambulance station, Rutland Street, and marched in procession to the Chureh. Archdeacon Averill, who is head of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in New Zealand, preached an appropriate sermon. Mr. J.
