MATCH AND MATCH BOX

PUZZLES.

THE BRIDGE PUZZLE. Materials required: Four wineglasses and three matches.

Problem to be solved: To form a bridge over three wineglasses strong enough to support the fourth plass in such a manner that each match will touch each separate wineglass at a single point only. THE FOUR-AUD-TWENTY MATCH PUZZLE. Materials required: Twenty-four matches, arranged so as to form nine squares.

Problem to be solved.—To take away eight matches and leave two squares upon the table. Take away all the matches forming the inner sides of tho four corner squares, then you will have two

squares left, one within the othc* as shown in the diagram. THE TEN MATCH PUZZLE. Materials required: Ten matches.

Problem to be solved.—To so arrange the matches that you can lift nine with the tenth, using one hand only. Place one match on the table and lay eight others alternately across it with their heads inwards. Then lay the tenth in the furrow caused by the overlapping of the matches, as shown in the

Then take the first match and lift it slowly upwards, when the others will be found to drop into the position 'shown in the illustration. THE TWO-SQUARE PUZZLE. Materials required: Seventeen matches, laid on the table so as to form six equal squares.

Problem to be solved. To take away six matches and leave two perfect squares.

Take away A, B, C, 1), E, and F, and you will have two squares as shown in diagram.
