THE BLUE NIGHT FAIRIES.

A NEW STORY. WORE ADVENTURES OF ELUNOR MAY. PART IL The Coming of the Fire Prince. We were welcomed in the Blue Land by numerous little fairies like Sapphire, except that they were without the halo of light round their heads. Now I could see the blue mountain more plainly, and it was like a large blue temple, with what seemed like the opening to a huge cave on the face of it. Standing at the cave entrance I saw a lot of little fairies with halos of light round their heads. Those," said Sapphire, "are my fairy sisters from the Temple of Love.' It is our duty to send out all the loving thoughts to the mothers of your earth, so that they will love our fairy children when they are born as mortals. But •Flashing Fire' and 'Rushing Waters' spoil and destroy the real peace of die temple. Then I heard s noise as of hundreds of drums, and all the fairies collected in little expectant groups and Sapphire 6aid: "Oh, look down the river Ellinor May, the river prince is coming." I looked and the bine river became more turbulent than ever. The pale blue foam seemed to take on life and leap higher in the air. Then far down the river it seemed to roar and curl, and I saw that it had given life to four white horses. (The land was all blue reiiember, so yoe will see how odd these white horses looked.) Breathless I watched them. Up the river they dashed four abreast, with towsled manes and flashing tails. They were approaching at a great pace, pounding the water to foam which flew everywhere. As they drew near I saw that they drew a white chariot, and standing in this was the river prince. He was singing a wild song and about his feet lounged four mermaids with green drapery twined around them. Nearer they came and the thunder of the horses feet grew louder and the laughter and song of the prince more weird. They reached the foot of the mountain from whence the river sprung, and the prince pulled his horses to a standstill, and leapt out upon the bank. He was followed by the four mermaids, who untwined the armour like drapery from their limbs and cast it back into the water. Sapphire touched my arm and said: "See Ellinor May, the mermaids have cast aside their disguise and are no longer mermaids, but four beautiful princesses. Always when we have just about succeeded in uniting Flashing Fire and Rushing Waters they lure him away with their wonderful charms and prevent us succeeding." The horses dashed back again down the stream and the river became less noisy. Then the prince and the four princesses lounged together at the foot of the mountain and the prince burst into songs of love to the Flame Princess Then over all the Blue Land flashed a Sltf 0 ™ y v? ow 15 S nt > Sapphire said, "Its Flashing Fire, Ellinor May, yes there Bhe M , descending from the MounMan top." ~ —•
