SPECIAL £10 COMPETITION
Those who are taking part in this special competition have a simple, yet fascinating, puzzle to solve. Above ell, the greatest factor to he borne in mind is that the solution must be a practical and not a theoretical one. In the diagram on the left you see one "solution" to this panic Laws of geometry tell us that if one straight line meets two other straight lines and that if the angle between them is a right angle then the two lines shall be called one line. In theory, then, the line AB is cut by the line CD
at the point E, bat in actual practice you realise that the lines CE and DE are really quite separate lines, being part of the lines CG and FD respectively.. Then, again, in the second diagram the lines are not cut, merely touched, or should they be deemed to be " cut" they are cut TWICE, for a line has no magnitude. Some hare sent in their solutions during the past few days, but these have not been accepted. Many of these, however, seem to think that the lines must be actually cut. The object is to " cut" these lines with a pencil line, not with a knife. Send your solution in on the diagram below.
