CORNER FOR BUSY BEES.

SOME DAINTY TOUCHES. SIMPLE EMBROIDERY STITCHES. Dear Girls, — I know yon can make thing* very nicely, but thought that perhaps you are tired of the embroidery stitches that yon hare been using up till now, so here are some that may be new to you. These three are quickly worked, and most effective on winter frocks for the small sister, or on little brother's flannel tunics. Like all other embroidery stitches the secret of their success depends upon how evenly they are worked. REVERSE KNOT STITCHThis is worked towards you like chain or feather stitch. Fasten on in the centre. Pass the thread to the right and round to the left, making a small loop held under the thumb of the lefthand. Take a short stitch to the right of the centre and bring the needle up in the loop. Do not draw the thread very tight. Reverse this stitch on the left-hand side of the centre. Again do not bring the stitches right on to the centre line, and the result will be a knotted sig-sag. See Diagram A. SHADOW STITCHING. Shadow stitching is exceedingly pretty for any transparent material. It is worked on the wrong side, and show* through the material. The stitch used is the herringbone, worked closely

together >o that it gives on the right side of the material only a neat outline of small detached stitches with a padded appearance on the surface enclosed by them. Almost any pattern may be worked in shadow stitch, provided the spaces are not too large, and any colours may be used. See Diagram B. CABLE CHAIN COUCHED. Work a cable chain in the usual way, leaving the loop slightly looser than for ordinary chain. Push the side thread of the chain loop outwards with the needle, bring the new thread up inside the chain loop, but to the side of the centre line. Pass the new thread over the thread of the loop in the middle of the stitch and insert the needle. Couch in this manner both sides of each chain stitch. See Diagram C .
