There are 30 miles of roads in the Eastern Harbour suburbs, and a considerable portion of the total mileage has been formed in permanent material.
The city engineer reported that the district would not he a rliliirult one from a reading standpoint, although parts of it, particularly that portion between Rehutera Road and Orakei, were fairly steep. The liability other than the loans already raised, totalling .tSo.TOO, was not worse than in any other district which had been amalgamated with the city. He did not regard the drainage of the district as a dillicult matter, and the area outside the Drainage Board's district could be dealt with by a separate scheme of drainage, discharging lietween Tamaki Head and Point England. The city treasurer reported that the capital value of the district was £1.(585,705, which he estimated would produce an annual revenue of .CIS.4SS.
