IMPROVING THE STRAIN
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day
The Department of Agriculture has frequently imported blood stock to improve the breed of farm animals in New Zealand, and it has a small herd of Guernsey cattle at Ruakura which has been of value to the dairy farmer owing to the fine milking strain it represents. The Hon. 0. J. Hawken (Minister of Agriculture) informed your correspondent that in order to bring fresh blood into this herd, he is negotiating for the purchase of a high-class Guernsey bull from Canada. •
