JUBILEE INSTITUTE'S NAME.

A proposal to change the name of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind to "The New Zealand Institute for the Blind," came under consideration yesterday at a meeting of the trustees.

It was stated that an impression hold sway in Southern districts that the Jubilee Institute was merely an Auckland concern, whereas its activities were universal throughout the Dominion. It was the only blind institute in NewZealand.

The association of "jubilee"' was not, as is commonly supposed, with Queen Victoria's long reign, but with the 50t0h anniversary in 1890 of the founding of Auckland. It was derided to defer the decision until a later meeting. Wireless For the Blind. It was also suggested that the Institute might make special terms for the supply of listening-in wireless sets under the provisions of the Sir Arthur Pearson Memorial Fund. The director (Mr. Clutha Mackenzie) reported that he has received information from the United Kingdom and from Canada that in those countries no charges were made for listening-in licenses to bona fide persons. St. Dunstan's Hostel for Blinded Soldiers had supplied every blinded ex-service man in the British Isles with a set free of charge; and in Canada, advantageous contracts had been made with manufacturers for the supply of sets at very low rates.

The trustees expressed the opinion that wireless was the greatest blessing of modern times to the blind and decided to look further into the matter.
