STILE SUBSTITUTE.

redgum will be best for the sill. The up- ! rights are mortised into the sill and are ! also securely bolted or spiked to the fence posts. The top piece turns easily on the bolt running through the upright ! on one side and falls into a stout catch at the back of the other upright. from a plate screwed into the sill to the upright 011 each side. The centre piece travels 011 one rod as a guide, the rod being put through a stout screw-eve, : which is screwed into the foot of the centre piece. This is a stout, simple, and neat device, which effectually fills the ' opening and must be closed after passing through. 0 (

It is essential that the greatest care ! be taken in the selection of both boars ' and sows for breeding purposes. The more closely a pig conforms to the ! standard of excellence, the better the carcase it produces. We want a mod- j erately long head, neither too long nor ! too short, with a broad snout and slightly dished face. A heavy jowl is not wanted. We like to see the ears wide ' apart, and thin and not too big. They i should be fringed with fine silky liair,! because this point indicates absence of coarseness.
