ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING. | MANY MATTERS OF INTEREST. The quarterly meeting of the council of the Auckland Provincial Fruitgrowers' Association was held yesterday, the president (Mr. S. \V. House) presiding. President's Address. Addressing the meeting the president j said the year had been a busy one and some important questions had been discussed, namely the tomato question, the citrus position, local marketing and advertising. The Minister of Agriculture had yet to visit some important fruitgrowing districts in the Auckland province. I Reporting on the tariff commission it was stated that the council had had a good hearing. The question of the import of Mission orange juice, duty free, ' in competition with the Karotonga orange juice was discussed at length, and the evidence given made a strong 1 case. Matters relative to the fruit industrv had been discussed with the Hon. O. T. Hawken. Minister of Agriculture, and more particularly that of proper advertising as soon as there was local control of the marketing conditions. It was realised that something systematic must be done and that all" avenues v should be exploited which would lead to the use of more fruit. "If the Auckland fruit industry is to keep to the fore, and take advantage of all opportunities offering, it will be necessary to keep the keenest interest going in the council and its work," sai(f mT.
