AXXlul'S.—lSrn.-iiwood Boy jumped the lirst h. lie and fell and broke his back at the second (in the straight). It was, therefore, in the first round that tho accident happened. J.lf. (Ellerslie). —You were on Some Abbey iirst start. When you stipulate a horse 'Alien you are on that one lirst start. You had no contingency respecting Tara as you cannot bet Vck wards. Daj- Bell, who was kicked yesterday Tv'iile exercising at Ellerslie, may be n starter at the meeting, for the injury has proved to be less serious than at iirst thought. Melissa has not been required to do a great deal of fast work since being at Ellerslie, but she pleased by the way she sprinted yesterday morning, and looks to be in good racing condition. Thurnbell. the two-year-old stable mate of Ilynanna. went nicely over four furlongs yesterday morning. He appeared to be going on at the finish, and should be capable of running six furlongs without any trouble. Bahadur gave a good exhibition of jumping over a round of the steeplechase course, including the hill, on Tuesday morning. The black horse is on the improve, and should be a good proposition during the coming jumping season. Merry Jest, who won at the recent Wellington meeting, has been racing well lately. In her last five starts she has won twice and been placed on two occasions. Yesterday at Ellerslie she went over seven furlon-js, the last six taking 1.23 1-5.

A. Julian's two jumpers. Slump and Scot Free, were given a run in company over a round of the schooling hurdles at Ellerslie yesterday. They both gave a good display of fast jumping, and will have to be considered in hurdle events in the future. .7. Anderton has worked a l-'t of improvement in Diamond Queen during the last few weeks, and the chestnut filly displayed a fair amount of pace when given a run over six furlongs in company with Alonsoa yesterday. She will be "given a race during the autumn meetings at Ellerslie. One of the best gallops over six furlongs was accomplished yesterday morning by Aussie, when he had Oration as a companion. The Fortafix gelding appeared to be going the better of the two when they readied 1 lie post, although it was a very creditable effort for both horses concerned. (.'hr.r.iour, who appears to be getting back to the form he displayed in the spring, has been responsible for several good track performances during* the last week or tw.v. He went a solid seven furlongs yesterday morning, and should be capable of capturing a stake before the autumn meetings are concluded. Commendation, who arrived at Ellerslie yesterday, was given steady work on the sand this morning, and appeared anxious to increase the pace. Owing to L. G. Morris being injured at the Wanganui trotting- meeting another rider will have to be procured for Commendation, but so far nothing has been refinitely decided regarding a pilot. Hip;> went a very solid seven furlongs en the course proper yesterday when associated with Princess Ronnie. They went almost "from a stand, and the time compared favourably with most of the other gallops over the same journey when that fact is considered. Hipo is in great heart, and should run well ir< his coming engagements at Kllerslie. Sir Iloseberv galloped in something approaching his best form when he completed a round on the course proper yesterday morning. The Sir Knox geklincr who had to be eased in his preparation a short time ago, has been doing a good deal of solid work during the last two weeks, but he may not be quite at his best when he takes his place in the Brighton hurdles next Saturday.

Antrim Boy has arrived at Ellerslie. ] a.1'.(1 lie appears to have freshened up considerably. lie was sprinted half a mile on Tuesday morning, and displayed his usual track brilliancy. Antrim ( Boy is engaged on the second day of the • Auckland meeting, and as lie has previously won on the Ellerslie course, he i •will not be without friends when he goes to tlie post. t . Adding March has not vet appeared ? in public over steeples and it was rather " interesting to watch him at Ellerslie } yesterday morning when he tackled the v big country there for the first time. Of course he has plenty of pace and in his effort yesterday jumped in good stvle 1 and stayed on well. Probably he may'be 0 started in cross country events at the 1 forthcoming meetings, for he has been i entered for all of them. Hynanna beat High Titch vesterdav ' morning and he is among those eno-aWd i in the President s Handicap on Saturday < next. He ran the seven furlongs in ' 1.32 1-3 and went well throughout. As he is only weighted at t>.9 in the race under review and lias carried 9.8 successfully in the Woodville Cup, compassing'the mile and a-cjuarter in 2.0 1-5, he will have sonic support next Saturday. He looks to be in fine fettle and is one of the best of his age racing in Xew Zealand at the present time. Papain, who is among the lightly] weighted division in the Easter Handi- ; s <i pretty useful sort up to a mile and three furlongs. Earlier in the season, after finishing second in the Champion Hack Handicap, one mile, at Te Aroha, he won the President's Handicap, one mile, on the second day, beating a' good field in 1.42. At the recent v/iiangarei nieeting Papatu was finisliiii<r on at the end of a mile and three furlongs, and after his performance at Ellerslie yesterday over eight furlongs it looks as though he will be among -.those who will lia \ e fiienus on the

.Tail-Icy and Rascal were sent t<> iliccarton from Napier on Monday iuliil engagements there. Gala Day is back at Ellerslie after a few months' spell, ami was on the track this morning. The two-year-old Excess was to haw accompanied Commendation to Auckland, but contracted a cold. He is by l\i'.broney from Fulsome. Onialut is engaged in the Karen Hurdles at Manawatn. This will be hiiirst appearance, if he races since liic (■'rand Xationa! meeting last An;:! 1 ..;, In consequence of Whcnuanni being scratched for tlie Easter Handicap at Ellerslie, H. Wiggins, who was engaged to ride him, will now be on Merry Jest. The name of Zipper lias been claimed for the four-year-old gelding by King John from Landrail. Hs is a half-l»rother to Landbird and a full brother to Magna Chart a. T. Clark has arrived at Wanjanui witi: Comical. Aston and the live-year-old full brother to Doleful Ditty. They are to be prepared there tor winter engng?1:1011', s. On Xo. .1 grass track at Ellerslie this morning Day Guard ran tive furlongs. which he covered in 1.5, and moved very freely. Bright Dawn ran a similar distance, 1.5, 3.5. Wyoming has not been doing any particularly fast work recently, but the bay gelding is in good fettle, and should be capable of racing in improved form during the autumn meetings. Among the arrivals at Ellerslie to-day are 0. Cox with Rcremoana, Lady Cavendish and Lady Desmond; R. Porter from I'aeroa with Mosaic, Xancy Lee, Xamutere and Mosque; J. Zimmerman with Day Guard.

Baby Bun, who won at Wliangarei over six furlongs, finished in front of Cawnporc over five furlongs at Kllerslie yesterday morning. Baby Bun is engaged 111 events at Feilding and may get in the money, judging by her track work here recently. Respirator bears a very healthy appearance and though he has not raced since winning at the Franklin meeting he looks to be well forward. He is one of the Tea Tray tribe and should soon be seen to the fore again when the company is not too select. .Nincompoop raced wcli at the Wellington meeting over a mile, finishing fourth in the Thompson Handicap and third over a mile 011 the second day. H»r igoing well at Riccartpn and may get o:i the winning list before the C.J.i . meeting is concluded. Musketoon was a good horse over a distance a season or two ago, but this season he has been doing stud duty and has only recently taken up again. Musketoon is now being given some sprinting, and yesterday at Ellerslie he moved well over half a mile. He looks as though he may be seen to advantage again. .Toy King, who is one of the favoured division for the Easter Handicap, went well at Ellerslie yesterday morning over six furlongs. Joy King is evidently improved by the racing he had at Wellington for' he bears a very muscular appearance, and if both he and Rapine start the bracket is sure to be well supported. High ritch was beaten by Hynanna at Ellerslie yesterday morning, but one could not take a great deal of notice of that. High Pitch won the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie easily on his last appearance here. On the score of condition he lacks nothing and he is expected to run a good race in the [ Easter Handicap. Ring the Bell went nicely over a mile at Ellerslie yesterday in company with Papatu. The imported liorse can run out eight furlongs well and though his activities have been confined to shorter distance events recently, he won the Anniversary Handicap, one mile, at Trenthani last January, beating among others Joy King and Centrepiece. Ttep»ie is very well and the manner in which he completed the last seven furlongs of a mile at-Ellerslie yesterday morning was most impressive. He was only cantering over the first furlong and wound up with seven in 1.31—a great gallop for the distance outside three trestles. If Rapine begins quickly he is well in in the Easter Handicap at 9.7. The Thorn raced well last season, bu; this season he has failed to get into the money- in his half dozen starts. At the last autumn meeting at Ellerslie he won the Islington Welter, one mile ami that was his last success. At the recent Wellington meeting, The Thorn seemed to be coming back to form by the way he raced, for he finished fourth in Mie Hutt Handicap, one mile, to Mandar.c front Rank and Xincompoop. Among the two-year-olds brought to Vuckland bv F. Davis, are Orcat "harter and Brampton. The former s by Kincr John from En Parole, Mi lam of Right and I.«ft and Phoen:N 'ark. He ins not sorted yet. Bramp on is by Lord Qik-.v from Symbolism, he dam of KHißsandra. who- show.v! ome speed .1- a juvenile and was subs.<lently sent to Australia where lie won. ?rnmpton has started on four occasion;-,-ithout getting into the money. The horses he will have! inder charge there are Thurnrosae, Antrim Bov, Hoariri, Ladj T Arch, Young dischic.f, Adjuster, and a two-year-old >v Quin Abbey from a Lord Multifid nare. Donaldson has had a fair amount if success during the last two seasons, lavinc; won a good number of races in Llie Auckland province. W ■ payner lias a useful trio of two-year-c.lds at Ellerslie in Thaw, Covent careen and Dainaris.
