REVENUE RETURNS.
DECREASE IN EXPORT WHARFAGE. CONTROL BOARD HOLDING SUPPLIES. -MORE VESSELS, SMALLER CARGOES. In reviewing the treasurer's statement in regard to matters concerning the port of Auckland at yesterday's meeting of the Harbour Board, the superintendent and secretary (Mr. H. B. Burnett) accounted for various decreases and increases.
The report directed attention to the fact that the treasurer's statement for the sis months ended March 31 showed that there were increases in rents, import wharfage, shipping charges, crane dues, and water suppjy, and decreases in export wharfage, dock and slipway dues, storage aud lighting.
"The decrease in export wharfage is remarkable in view of the record output of butter and cheese. Th® fact is, however, that large quantities oi tbese commodities are being held in store by the Dairy Control Board and are not being shipped. The decrease in dock dues is only normal, and will be made up when the returns for the Northumberland come in."
The decrease in storage, according to the traffic manager, was due to quicker delivery now being taken of goods by means of motor lorries, while the decrease in lighting charges was due to less overtime being worked. The large increase in shipping dues, proved that more vessels were using the port, but they were carrying smaller cargoes than was formerly the case.
