The toast of "The Minister of Lands" was proposed by Mr. 11. -M. Corbett (chairman of tho Ohineimiri Comity Council). Mr. A. M. Samuel. M.P., Ohineimiri, proposed the toast of "The Minister of Public Works," making special reference to the personal popii~ larity and merit of the Hon. Mr. Williams. Responding, the Minister of PublicWorks said that if lie ];;:(! to refu.-e anv request for assistance it was n,,t because lio failed to recognise merit in that request, but because he was one of the guardians of the public purse. His tour of Kauraki Plains was part of a general tour of inspection which he wa*'"undertaking-, so that he might be able to express an intelligent opinion on important items when the Estimates were being framed.
