THE CITIZENS' COMMITTEE.
Curiosity about the origin and status o£ the Progressive Citizens' Election Committee is sharpened still more by the fact that those who wish to be included in the committee's "ticket" are expeeted to sign a pledge binding themselves to abide by the committee's decision. A candidate who is not chosen will not only be bound not to stand for election, but he must work and vote for the selected ones. This committee is already trying to play the King-maker in the Mayoral contest, and appears to have made a mess of things. It now proposes, with all the authority of a Labour caucus, to run a "ticket ,, for the council. Again it may be asked, who are the members of this committee, by whom were they chosen, and by what right do they take this stand? Voters are entitled to know upon what authority they are to be asked to vote for this "ticket." Is the committee an influential, widely representative , body, or merely a handful of business men ?
