MAYORAL POLICY.
MR BAILDON'S PLATFORM.
NINE PRINCIPAL PLANKS.
A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME.
A platform containing nine principal planks to form a comprehensive programme of civic improvement has been prepared by the Mayor (Mr. George Baildon) in connection his campaign for the city mayoralty. Mr. Baildon stated this morning that he would enlarge upon the various points in his campaign speeches, but he would like to make it clear that when he took office two years ago the council, of which he had been a member foi- many years, was definitely committed to a certain comprehensive programme, and it was generally contended that it was the duty of the council to complete the works in hand before embarking on any new enterprises of any magnitude. The planks of the Mayor's platform are as follows: Economic conduct of finances, and no increase in rates. Dealing adequately and speedily with the question of the Civic Square/ Placing of tramways and bus services on a paying basis. Further development of good roads policy in the city and suburban districts. Better lighting of suburban districts. Provision of parking areas for motor cars in city. Provision of more sports areas. Provision for making more outlets for traffic from the city, so as to relieve congestion. Development of Western Springs area.
