FAIR SALES RECORDED

Business on 'Change this week was distributed over a variety of stocks, but the volume of transactions was not large. With the opening of the month of April it is probable an improvement will set in. Bank shares are still popular with investors. Sales of Union Bank of Australasia shares were made at £15 17', and afterwards an extra sixpence was offered. Bank oi Australasia shares changed hands prior to payment of the dividend, at 14gns, and now ex dividend buyers offer £14 6 f . Several recorded in Bank of New South Wales shares at £49 7/6, and there is steady inquiry at 2 6 under that rate. English and Scottish Bank are inquired for daily at £S 11/. and occasionally an extra sixpence is offered. Bank of New Zealand shares could still be got at £3. and buyers continue at threepence less. A little more business was done in shares in insurance companies this week. Standards changed hands at 56/, South British at 53. 0, and Xew Zealand* at 36/9. British Tobacco shares sold at n'2/6, and Northern Steam at 12/'9 for paid issue and 6/ for contributing. A sale was also recorded of Huddiirt Parker Steam at 46/0, while buyers of P. and 0. deferred stock advanced their offers from £248 to £254, without a sscller l.cing disclosed. A few transactions occurred in Taranaki Oil shares at 11/3.

The sale of Tonson G.irliek's Queen Street premises had the effect of creating a sudden demand for shares in that company. Sales were made yesterday at 10/6 and 11/, then at the third call buyers raised their offers to 12/6, but the lowest seller asked 15/. Xew Zealand Breweries; shares are wanted at 51/, and the debenture stock sold .it 24'. Sales wore made of Hill and Plummer. Ltd., at 22/6, and Milne and Choyce debentures at 24!). Sanford, Ltd., chai.ged hands at 21/6. Tnupiri Coal shares maintained the advance, heinjr still asked for at 22'.

Abraham. Williams preference shares could be not for 87,0. and Farmers' Auctioneering fur 7S '. Diilxety, Ltd., on the other hand, firmed a little, buyers offering £15 10/ yesterday afternoon. Farmers' Fertiliser also improved, the offer at the third call yesterday being 78/. N.Z. and River Plate shares could be placed at 27/3, and N.Z. Loan and Mercantile at £92 10/ for ordinary stock, and £81 for preference. Another line that showed a slight advance was Phillipps and Impcy, Ltd., buyers offering 33/ (i.

A sale was made this -week of Auckiand Harbour Bo;ml 6 per cent debentures at £103. and buyers now quote 20/ under that figure. .Soldiers' Loan inscribed issue sold at £101, at which rale more were wanted yesterday afternoon. The 5 per cent War Loans arc wanted at £98 10/, and the 4 ] /f: per cent at £90.

Moauataiari shares eased in price this V n'M sellin S from 4/8 to 4/6 after the call of twopence was made. As far as the outlook for the Moanataiari mine is concerned, the manager is still reporting petting trucks of ore showing dabs of gold Kawarau shares eased this week, being offered at 3/3 yesterday afternoon. Lucky Shots maintained their price well, paid shares selling at 3/, and contributing from 2/7 to 2/6. Alburnia shares firmed in price sales being made from 3/3 to 3/8, after which a penny less was accepted. Inquiry was made this week for Auckland Gas debentures. £92 being offered for the o per cent, and £99 for the s'/2, but no sellers quoted.
