GOOD ENTRY OF CANDIDATES. PLATFORMS APPROVED. With the exception of the Auckland City Council full tickets have been nominated by the Labour Party for the slections which take place *.n April. Fourteen candidates have been nominated for the City Council, which mean- three over a majority ticket of 11. Messrs. T. Bloodworth and E. J. Plielan ' are the only labour representatives at presen on the council. Only lu candi- j dates weie nominated by the Labour \ Party for the 1025 election. Mr. Bloodworth was at the head of the poll and Mr. Phelan was in the twenty-first posi- , tion. Mr. Bloodworth is a candidate tor , the city Mayoralty as well as for the council this year, and will o-.en his ; Mayoralty campaign next M. u lay by an address at the Town Hall. ; All the candidates that have been ! nominated have been apprir. Ed by the: Labour Representation Commit tee. which | exercises the functions of the National j Labour Party. The Labour Party has ; nominated four city member- for the ! Hospital Board as compared with two in' the 192.5 election. Mr. Bloodworth is the | only Labour member at present on the I Board. ! The campaign in connection with the j various candidatures will be a vigorous one, and it is announced that an open air j meeting will take place to-night at Three Lamps, Ponsonby. The platforms adopted are as follws:— ( Municipal Platform: .Unification of minor local bodies into a single municipal government. The voting in all elections ' or other matters to be on the Parliamentary franchise. Municipalisation of j essential utilities. Introduction of a uni- j versal tram fare. All works to be carried j on under a municipal works department, j and by the direct employment of labour i under trade union conditions. Town j planning, clearing out of slum areas, the I proper housing of the people, the exten- j sion of playing areas and the proper j preparation and equipment of same. I Establishment of municipal creches and I women's resting rooms. Assessment of J all rates on unimproved land values. The | giving of equal care to the public interests of the suburban districts as to f other portions of the city. All council j meetings, committee or otherwise, to be j open to the public. That the public library be free in all is branches. Hospital Board Platform: Extension of ' the present hospital system to the estab- J lishment of cottage hospials. Retention i of the present elective system of hospital j boards. Opposition to private paying wards in public hospitals. Opposition to | the present limitation in appointment of ! honorary medical officers and the exten- j sion of the principle of honorary ser-1 vice to all qualified medical practitioners. I Appointment and payment of the best j possible medical and surgical officers to : the resident staff. A more sympathetic arrangement of hours and conditions for nurses, attendants and staff. With respect to chariable aid a more generous scale of assistance to people seeking aid. Appointment of a woman officer to; interview women applicants. The candidates nominated are as follows: — Auckland City Council.—Mayoralty: Mr. T. Bloodworth. Council: Messrs. J. Baker, R. F. Barter. B. Clews, G. Davis. B. Martin. O. Mcßrine, C. Morris. E. .T. Phelan, J. Purtell. A. Rosser. W. E. Sill. C'. M. Speedv. J. H. Sutherland, and C. A. Watts. Auckland Harbour Board (four city members). —Messrs. T. Bloodworth, O. Mcßrine,' C. Morris, and R. F. Way. In regard to the Hospital Board election, five seats will require to !>>• tilled. The nominees of the Labour jay are: Five city candidates: Mes.»i>. R. F. Barter, C. Morris, J. Purtell. M. J. Savage, M.P., and Mrs. McC'ready. The j combined road districts of Eden County are now represented by Mr. M. J. Coyle. who was elected in 1925 for a term of three years. Mr. J. Rowe and Mr. E. H. Potter are the present representatives of the combined districts of Avondale, Onehunga, Mount Eden, Ellerslie, and Newmarket on the Hospital Board. Both are expected to seek re-election. A Labour candidate. Mrs. Mary Dreaver, has been nominated by the Labour party to stand as a candidate for a seat on the Newmarket Borough Council.
