MINING NEWS.

WARDEN'S COURT. PAEROA, Wednesday. The following mining applications were dealt with at the March sitting of the Paeroa Warden's Court, presided over by Mr. F. W. Platts. warden. The New Zealand Crown Mines, Ltd., applied for 12 months' protection on the Crown Mines special quartz claim., 597, and also on Earl of Glasgowspecial quartz claim, 598. An objection was raised by Mr. James Wilson, but a satisfactory agreement was reached and the objection withdrawn. The warden stated that he would recommend the application to the Minister of Mines. J. B. Morris, holder of a water-race license, was granted permission to lay 200 feet of 4in iron piping between the Rose Crosscut and Earl of Glasgow battery at Karangahake. The same applicant was granted a special machine site of five acres on the Earl of Glasgow special quartz claim at the junction of Twig Road, Karangahake. Reginald Dixon and party was granted a certificate of reduction to two men for six months on Dixon's Maratoto special quartz claim. No. 9113. A reduction of rent from 7/6 to 3/9 an acre ou the same site for one year, from April 1, 1927, was also granted the party. Adam W. McLarn was granted a residence site on section 2.">, block 9, Karangahake, area 3G perches. Surrenders of residence sites were accepted from Mrs. Mary Rowley, license No. Sfi92, Karangahake: and Ethel Shaw, license No. 974, as from February 18, last. GREAT BRITISH MERCURY MINES. The Great British Mercury Mines, 1,tt1.. which is carrying on operations at Puhipuhi, has had its treatment plant running twenty-four hours per day for the past month. The secretary reports that a good deposit of mercury can be seen in the Qondensers. The furnace treated over 40 tons per week, and everything is running smoothly. The furnace will continue in operation for some weeks yet. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Kuranui.—The manager reports that the Old Battery level drive, east, on the Larry's reef, has been extended 20ft, a total of 30ft from the side of crosscut north. The reef averages about 6in wide, but has been mixed up with pug. The country is still of a blue nature, and carrying a fair amount of mineral.
