METHODIST FOREIGN MISSION
THE ANNUAL MEETING. VISITORS FROM OVERSEAS.
About thirty members were present at the annual meeting of the board of the Methodist Foreign Mission of New Zealand, held in the Pitt Street Methodist Church this morning. The Rev. P. Knight presided. A hearty welcome was extended to the Rev. J. G. Goldie, general superintendent of the Solomon Islands mission, and to the Rev. C. E. Dent, of South Africa, who briefly addressed the gathering. Congratulations were extended to Mr. Goldie, who recently completed his twenty-fifth year as a missionary in the Solomon Islands. It was decided that a special resolution be framed later. In reply Mr. Goldie said that the natives of the Solomon Group were the finest race in the Western Pacific. It was decided that a congratulatory message be cabled to the Rev. S. Hewitt, the, president of the New South Wales conference. The treasurer's report showed tliat the total income for last year amounted to £13,263, including an anonymous donation of £1000. The workings for the year, however, showed a deficit of £1337. A discussion of the whole work of the mission by Mr. Goldie showed all branches to be in a particularly healthy state.
