NEW ZEALAND CRICKET TEAM.
The withdrawal of Badcocfc from the }7ew Zealand team settles amicably a matter over which there has been much feeling. There is no imputation whatever against Badcock as a cricketer or a sportsman. He is a fine player, and the side will be weaker without him. It was felt by many, however, that his inclusion was wrong in principle, that he was not sufficiently a New Zealander to warrant him going to England as a member of the first Xew Zealand team. The Cricket Council should have vetoed his candidature at the outset. Admittedly it is difficult to know where to draw the line of residence and calling, but in our opinion Badcoct's ineligibility was clear. His case should serve .as a useful precedent.
