DOMINION AND DEPENDENCIES NEARLY li MILLIONS. llic total population of the Dominion of New Zealand, together with that of all dependencies and mandated territory, was 1,485,955 at the beginning of the present year, according to .the current issue of the Gazette. Of this total, 759,549 were males, and 720,100 females. The estimated population, including Maoris, of New Zealand proper was 1,429,531, the Maori population being estimated at 04,135. There were 04,138 Maoris. The North Island continued to hold a big lead over the South Island, the exact | figures being: North 910,257, South 1 519,244.
