RIFLE SHOOTING
AUCKLAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION V. H.M.S. RENOWN. A match was contested fit Penrose on | Saturday between teams of eight men from the Auckland Itille Association and n.M.s. Renown. Drizzling rain made the condition of competitors uneujoyable, but the shooting was of an exceedingly high standard. Lieutenant Cooper, the highest scorer for the warship, was presented by the association with a silver cigarette case at afternoon ten, which was partaken of in the barracks. Lieutenant Cooper presented a silver medal on behalf of H.M.s. Renown to Rifleman Reston, the highest scorer for Auckland. Five possibles were registered at 200 yards, and two 49°s at 300 yards. H.M.s, Renown. —Lieutenant Cooper, 49, 45—97 ; Colour-Sergeant Barrett, 48, 48— 96; Petty Officer Clack, 50, 40—96; Petty Officer Griffiths, 4S, 40—94 ; Leading Seaman Seagrove, 48, 46—94 ; Leading Seaman Dudley, 49, 45—94; Marine Cornelius, 47. 46—93; Ordinary Seaman Waltlen, 49. 37 —SO; grand total, 750. Mr. S. Elliott, chairman of the Auckland Rifle Association, welcomed the visitors from the warship. Lieutenant Cooper, in replying, said they had greatly enjoyed the match.
