JUST ABOUT AVERAGE.
THE TOURIST TRAFFIC. NORTHLAND BECOMING POPULAR. "Just about the "average," was the reply when inquiry was made to-day in regard to the tourist traffic this season, which means that .a busy season, similar to last season,, is being experienced. Most of the overseas visitors, who made Auckland a jumping-off point this summer, had planned a trip to embrace Rotorua, Taupo, National Park, and Waitomo Caves, while a number, in. addition, haye made the Wanganui Rivei trip before going on to the South Island. The fame of the Northland fishing has spread afar, and there has been an increased number of overseas visitors to Russell and Whangaroa, some now making a fishing visit to the north an annual holiday.
It was stated this morning that it was possible that palatial tourist liners of the Carinthia and Franconia type would, in future, make a longer stay in New Zealand waters, many of the American visitors -having expressed the opinion that more time was necessary to visit the many Dominion scenic resorts.
