THE DISTINCTIVE PIG.

The Tamworth pig is one of the oldest breeds, and is distinct in type from every other we possess. It is red in colour, and preserves the long snout that comes down, doubtless, from the original wild state in which all members of the porcine race existed. Of late years great improvement has been made in the breed, but something still requires to be done to deepen the hams. Yet, it can with truth be said that in some ways the breed comes nearer the bacon curer's ideal than any other! It is not jui extensively adopted farmer's pig, scarcely shows the fattening propensities nor quite the scale of the other large breeds. Rusty and light coloured reds are at a discount, and to secure the true Tamworth dark red adds greatly to the value of the animal from a breeder's point of view.
