Pushing Politics at the Point of the Pistol. OFFICIALS KIDNAPPED. CHICAGO. February I Unprecedented rioting characterI ised the Mayoral elections which were I held in Chicago yesterday. Seven j men were seriously injured. Three 'election officials were kidnapped. I Twenty-six men, who had a number of revolvers and machine-guns in their | possession, were captured when they ' r raided the headquarters of the candin I dates for the council.
All the ballot-papers from one booth were stolen. In one ward there wcie 10 brawls in the first hour of the joll.
Although the police were armed with machine-guns and were assisted by t>o squad? oi detectives and special guards they could not cope with the situation.
An election otlicial was shot four times in the course of a dispute with another otlicial about the perlormance of his electoral duties. The wounded man will probably die.
