It should t be broadcasted that he was the head and front of any opposition in Parliat ment to granting this control to his own borough, when only a very few of his fellow members lent hiin support. Mr. " Harris moved to.strike out subclause 2, e which made the Borough Council the ® licensing authority. He got only 10 members to vote with him, while 48 5 voted against him. Your correspondent e "Takapuna" may be categorically correct when he says that he "signified no \ objection whatever to any Takapuna s body controlling the traffic of the V borough," but Mr. Harris is not so dife fident. He specifically objected to our properly-elected representatives, the ! - Mayor and councillors of Takapuna. bee ing entrusted with this control. In t spite of Mr. Harris' eloquence, Parliar ment also turned down this patriotic Y demand by 4o to 22. Mr. Harris eant not now plead that our council is not s representative, as their traffic policy has i been since endorsed by a substantial t majority vote of the electors, with a s majority at all polling booths, with one faint exception. But the cream of the joke is the fact that certainly our Mayor, and also our councillors, almost to a man, were pronounced and enthusiasti. supporters of Mr. Harris at his recent n election.
