THE WAKEFIELDS.

The illustration in Saturday's supplement (19/2/1927) of Colonel Wakefield is, I think, not accurate. A book I possess called "Adventure in New Zealand," by Edward Jerningham Wakefield, fives some account of the colonisation of New Zealand by Colonel Wakefield, and the illustration given by you is E. .T. Wakefield, a nephew of Colonel Wakefield. I visited the grave of E. J. ( Wakefield last January in Ashburton. j It is in the old cemetery which was ; closed many years ago. He died in ! 1879, in obscurity and adversity, with i no relatives at his bedside to cheer his J dying hours. He had not reached his ' fiftv-ninth vear. I W. SWAIN. !
