BUSINESS ASSOCIATION ACTIVE. TELEPHONE AND BANK [NO FACILITIES. Recent activities of the Northeote Business Association were reviewed by the chairman. Mr. E. J. Fraser, at a genera! meeting last evening. He stated that steps had been taken with a vie\> to having a branch bank established at Northeote. and it was anticipated that this woidd be shortly consummated bv attendance on at least two days each week. Various matters had been taken tip with the Borough Council, including suggestions for ail expert report on the concrete roading scheme before the contract was let. and the provision of suitable bathing facilities and conveniences at the beaches, and the Stafford Road reserve. i

Regarding the much-desired automatic telephone installation, the canvass for new subscribers had been undertaken bv the Business Associations at Birkenhead and Northeote. the respective results being 40 and 21. To these 01 new applications had to be added to the GO present.subscribers, making 121 towards the necessary guarantee of 200. Many prospective subscribers would not sign in the absence of a guarantee from the Department as to when the automatic system would be brought into operation. The Birkenhead Borough Council had this week suggested to the Northeote Council sending a joint deputation to the district" telegraph engineer to discuss the whole question with a view- to expediting the extension of the automatic service to both boroughs. It was decided that in the event of the Birkenhead Business Association having representation on this deputation, the Northeote Association would also be represented thereon.
