The Commonwealth Government ha* been {riven leaxc to intervene in the case in order to argue that the law imposing the tax i* invalid, on the jnwind that it constitute* an intrusion into ihiexclusive domain of the Commonwealth. Argument on behalf of the New South Wale* Government was Mibmitted by the State Attorney -General, Mr. tL A. McTie-nan. The Chief .Justice. Sir Adrian Kno\. said he would not call on counsel fur the newspaper proprietors to replj. After consultation among the it was announced that judgment would be reserved.
