LOCAL BODIES MEETINGS.

■ MOUNT EDEN. Tho Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. E. H. Potter) presiding. Building Permits.—The building inspector reported that building permits to the value of £7915 were issued during January, eight being dwelling*, of a total value of £7915. Cromwell Road.—The works committee was authorised to confer with the work* committee of the Mount Albert Borough Council m connection with the reconstruction of Cromwell Road. Prospective Work*.—The engineer was instructed to prepare plans for the forming of Brentwood Avenue, a portion of Wynyard Road in concrete 18ft. wide, the reconstruction of Grange Road for the full width m bitumen, also to prepare plans for work on St. Albans Avenue and Wairiki Road. Proposed Through Road.—Mrs. A. Rielly. Shacklelon Road, urged the need o{ a through road to enable children from the area south of Ellcrton Road to reach Maungawhau School. The matter was referred to the works committee for a report. Tenders for Fire Engine.—A number of tenders, received for a new fire engine. were referred to a committee to make a recommendation. MT. ROSKILL ROAD BOARD. Mr. S. Scarborough presided over a meeting of the Ml. Roskili Road Board held last night. Building Permits.—Twelve permits for new buildings were issued during the fortnight of a total value of £6942. There arc 2S buildings now in the course of erection in the district. House Numbers.—lt was decided to instruct the building inspector to report on the question of numbering the houses in the more populated parts of the district. Slot Telephones.—The k Post and Telegraph Department advised the board that coin-in-the-slot telephones will be installed at Royal Oak. Greenwood's Corner, and at the corner of Three Kings and Mt. Albert Roads. It was resolved to ask for another at Dominion Road, and at '.he corner of Richardson and Arkle Road*. Refuse collection.—The contractor for the collection of refuse asked for the renewal of his contract for another year. Referred to committee. Subdivisions.—The Mt. Wellington Road Board asked the board to cooperate w*ilh them in obtaining legal opinion on the question of the subdivision of estates i.i their respective districts. The request was declined, as the board arc satisfied with the conditions prevailing at Mt. RoskilJ. Transport Control Board.—Mr. A. S. Belcher was appointed to represent the board on the advisory- eommitt.ee with regard to the appointment of a transport control board. NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Xorthcotc Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. C. A. Deu\berrr. presided, and Councillors -I. B. Tonar, r L. Maxwell, E. W. B. Herrack, A. R. Shutos. C. Bunker, and A. J. Lennon were also present. Footpaths.—Tarring and sandinc of new footpaths in Seavjew Avenue, east side. Gladstone Road, west side. Gordon Road. south side. Church Street. west side. Faulkner Road, both sides. Bruce Road. both sides, and Fairfax Avenue, west side, was authorised: the estimated est being £195. An allocation of £2(»0 was agreed upon for the improvement of the fojtpaths at the southern end of Princes Street. Motor Omnibus Traffic—The town clerk of Auckland notified that the amplications of the Takapuna Tramways Company for motor omnibus licenses to run between Nortcote Wharf «nd Takapuna. and of the Waitemata Bus Company to run between Norlhcotc and Miiford would come before the No. 1 Licensing Authority nest Friday. The council decided to inform that body that it had no objection to the granting of these applications. The Mayor and Messrs. Herrick. Shutes. and Maxwell were appointed to represent the council on the deputation which will wait upon the Prime Minister on Thursday morning to urge that the combined districts on the North Shore should be constituted a separate licensing district and authority under the Motor Omnibus Traffic Act. Wharf Lighting—lt was decided to suggest to the Auckland Harbour Board the ! need of an additional light on the Norllicote wharf between the shed and the road approach. A meeting of the Birkenhead Borough Council was held last evening. New Buildings.—Five permits for new buildings were granted. Hospital Patients" Fund.—Permission was granted to lake up a street collection on Marc h 4 in aid oi the hospital patients and families fund. Motor Drivers.—The City Council's chief traffic inspector wrote approving of the suggestion that motor drivers' licenses at Birkenhead In- issued on tests conducted by a Birkenhead Borough Council official. A similai system was adopted at Takapuna. Refuse Destructor.—The secretary of the Marine Boroughs" Association wrote pointing out that the question of a combined destructor for the North Shore had not been dealt with by the association but by » joint committee of the four boroughs, which was appointed at a conference to which all members of the foui councils were invited. Borough Band.—Mr. V. Quecniu, hon. secretary, advised that the annua! general meeting of the Birkenhead Borough Band would be held on March 3. North Shore Transport Board.—Representatives were appointed to the deputation to the Prime Minister on Thursday morning to urge the constitution of a , North Shore Licensing District the .Motor Omnibus Tratiic Act.
